Martha E. Banks, PhD, is a research neuropsychologist in the research and development division of ABackans DCP, Inc., in Akron, Ohio. She served as president of the Society for the Psychology of Women and was a member of the American Psychological Association Council of Representatives. Dr. Banks was a clinical psychologist with the Brecksville Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and was full professor of Black studies and associate professor of psychology at The College of Wooster. She has published widely in books and professional journals and is co-editor of the 2009 book set Disabilities: Insights From Across Fields and Around the World.

Dr. Banks received an American Psychological Association Presidential Citation in March 2008. In October 2010, Dr. Banks's career was recognized with a President's Distinguished Achievement Award from the University of Rhode Island. (Photo credit: Jessie McDaniel)
