David Manier is associate professor of psychology at Lehman College, City University of New York, where he has been a member of the faculty since 2000. After receiving an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and a graduate degree from Harvard, he received his doctorate in clinical psychology from New School University in 1996. He then completed a year of postdoctoral training at the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He was a visiting assistant professor at the "Babesh-Bolyai" University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and at New York University. His area of specialization comprises sociocultural aspects of personality and memory, especially as related to the consequences of stress and trauma, positive psychology, and the history of psychology.
